Americo Paredes

1915-1999

Americo Paredes was a Mexican-American author born in Brownsville, Texas who authored several texts focusing on the border life that existed between the United States and Mexico, particularly around the Rio Grande region of South Texas.

Paredes Middle School, the namesake of Dr. Paredes, was opened in January 2000, the first school in Austin ISD of the new millenium.

The Paredes Band program has over 300 members from grades 6-8 who comprise 9 sections of beginning band classes and 3 performing groups.

OUR CLASSES

Beginning Band

Beginners are divided into 9 sections, which include flutes, double reeds, saxes, trumpets, French horns, trombone, baritone/tuba, and percussion.

Concert Band

Concert Band is designed for students with at least one year experience who need extra practice at a more elementary level. This band will participate in several performances throughout the year.

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band is designed for players with at least one year of experience at the intermediate level. This band will perform have several performance opportunities throughout the year.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the top performing group at Paredes. The band has several performances throughout the year, and will also have the opportunity to compete in All-Region Band.
